]f you don’t already own this Hermes accessory, it’s time to get your hands on one. I’m talking about the ultra-luxurious Hermes silk scarf that women all around the world go crazy for, myself included! The Hermes silk scarf is the epitome of luxury. Coveted and admired by royalty and celebrities alike, this silk square is much more than just a fashion accessory, it is a style icon.
Free of logos and a loud look-at-me aesthetic, the Hermes silk scarf adds a certain luxe feel to an outfit that is hard to achieve otherwise. This silk scarf makes me nostalgic of the time when women and men were beautifully dressed in their tailored clothes and refined accessories— the sort of old glamour that is both classy and effortless.
WHAT SETS HERMES SCARVES APART
What makes Hermes scarves unique is in their intensely detailed process and traditional use of silk screening technique. Instead of using digital technology to mass produce scarves, Hermes chose tradition over technology. Each of their scarves is still silk screened by a professional artisan today.
Silk screening is the process that involves creating various screens for each color of the motif that is applied in layers. Sometimes, a scarf can have up to 30 colors and it’s the artisan’s job to interpret the design and translate them into combinations of color, which will determine the number of screens necessary to complete the design.

It usually takes up to 18 months to produce a single scarf after a design has been approved. Once the engravers receive a design, it can take them up to 6 months to decide on the colors and about 1700 hours to complete one scarf! In addition, each scarf requires the silk of 250 mulberry moth cocoons, crazy right?!
Another thing worth noting is that the edges of each scarf are rolled by hand, known as the rolled hem. This is a very time-consuming process to get the edges perfectly aligned and matched. Therefore, one artisan may only roll the edges of a few scarves a day.
AN INVESTMENT PIECE FOR EVERY WOMAN
…
The classic Hermès scarf comes in two sizes— 36″ x 36″ and 55″ x 55″. The smaller version is between $415-$460 and the larger size is $810. This certainly isn’t a small investment, but considering the skilled craftsmanship, artistry, and quality that goes into each of these scarves— it is worth every penny.
The next time you happen to be near an Hermes boutique, stop by and check out their silk scarves selection. You’ll see why their reputation precedes them. The vivid colors and prints are designed in a manner that no matter how you fold, roll, and wear them— they look beautiful from all different angles.
There is a certain luxurious feeling you get when you wrap the soft silk Hermes scarf around your neck— something that is easily felt but hard to explain. The iconic Hermes scarf is the ultimate symbol of elegance and the one accessory that will last a lifetime.

I absolutely love your scarf, and you paired it very nicely with your outfit! Thanks for detailing the production process so well, I think it should help people understand why luxury fashion is expensive, but an actual investment.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the article!
Agreed! I have received a few Hermes scarves from my husband when he travels and they are an absolute treasure! I also loved hearing about the process as previously mentioned. Only thing I do struggle with from time to time is how to style or fold the square size. Perhaps another article idea??
Ah! Yes, what a great idea. I will write another post on how to style the square size. Be sure to subscribe to my blog to get notifications when the post goes live! Xx
You are absolutely right! The Hermes silk scarf is the perfect accessory. I could put on a pair of jeans and t-shirt, and a blazer and Hermes scarf will make the outfit look so polished.
Love this hermes scarf – do you know the name of it? If so please let me know! Thanks!
